Giraffe
If someone ask you, ‘What is the
tallest in the world?’, I think you have giraffe is. Yes, you’re right. Giraffe
or Giraffa camelopardalis is an
African mammal, the tallest of all extant land living animal species, and the
largest ruminant. Giraffe usually inhabit savannas, grassland, or open
woodlands extends from Chad in Central Africa to South Africa.
Giraffe is a social animal, like
us. They live in groups, gather around a food source. As you knew, giraffe has
extremely elongated neck, which can be over than 2 meters in length, wow! Giraffe
has a pair of prominent horns called ossicones. The appearance of the horns is
reliable of method to identifying the sex of giraffe. With the females
displaying tufts hair on the top of the horns, but the males horns are larger
and tend to bald on top. Giraffe also has slightly elongated forelegs, and can
reach a sprint speed of up to 60 kmh. Hmm… I think giraffe can be a very good
sprint athlete. More that it, giraffe has a unique coat. Its coat pattern has
large, four sided spots of chestnut brown on an off-white background and no
spots on inner sides of the legs or below the hocks.
Some people said that giraffe
resembled deer. Do you agree with it? I think we have various opinions about
it. People said that giraffe resembled deer because deer having large antler
like ossicones. I told you in the front that giraffes are herbivores. The
usually feed on high trees like acacia. Giraffe have babies to reproduce,
because they are mammals. Until now, there are about 80.000 giraffe remain in
total in the world. Hmm… we must watch over the population of giraffe so they
will not be extinct.
